Thoughts of the possibly impending and necessary Paradigm Shift is giving many of us serious consideration to structures that hold together our daily lives and even our civilization. Reflection on the arbitrary constructs that form our realities are further stimulated by the ending of the 5000 year old Mayan calendar cycle in a few years and the ongoing movement to return a lunar calendar. Celebration of this pivotal time of year, if nothing but the change of calendar always brings of questions as to the authenticity of the structure of the dates.
Even as a Buddhist I am engaged in Christian mythology, willing and even eager to celebrate Christ consciousness. And like many of us every year I feel caught in the commercial machinery and obvious manipulations of the calendar and dates by ruling and political entities.
The pre-Christian initiates beheld the Christ in the Sun-sphere aware of the earth and cosmic connection at this time of year. January 6th continued to be celebrated among the early Christians until the 4th century. With the change of emphasis to December 25th as the birth of Child-Jesus, much of the understanding of this sacred time and the cosmic influences on the earth involving the Christ energy was obscured.
It is gratifying however to find that such esoteric traditions as Theosophy and Anthroposophy verify that our midwinter holiday is a powerful season grounded in the cycles of earth and cosmic forces. The 13 Holy Nights and 12 Holy Days, between December 24 and January 6 is indeed the time of difference between the Solar and Lunar Calendar when the cosmic forces that are accessible. This window is a time of soul-renewal to sustain us with abundant life force to last through the year.
The 12 Holy Days reflect the 12 months of the New Year and are an opportunity to empower the soul for creative spiritual activity into the year ahead. Mystery schools believe that the soul-spirit forces are nearest to union with the earth from Christ Mass Eve to January 6th, Epiphany and each of the holy days correspond with a particular month of the year. December 25th relates to April, December 26th to May and through the months until January 6th relates to March. You can take note of weather, daily events, nighttime dreams which metaphorically inform you of the year to come. I have found this process a focus that assist inner reflection and frames the year if only poetically rom this time.
Lighting an additional candles each evening During the Holy Nights is a simple way to honor the time. If interested I have some roughly translated pages from German that have more information on the relationship of the Holy Days to the Zodiac as well to the rest of the year and other Christian symbols and holiday. Blessed are we to live in such an extraordinary time! The collective shift towards the light that we, and the very planet we live upon, are daily experiencing, is in essence, a celebration of the Heart. In learning to embody the Light, we must come to deeper truth in understanding, as well as experience, of the Heart.
The Heart – both individual and collective - is the bridge between the spiritual and physical realms. It is the voice of the Soul. It is the vehicle through which the Divine Presence facilitates transformation of our beings, our individual lives, and of all life.
Our Hearts are multifaceted organisms, layered with rich and potentially ever-deepening avenues of expression and embodiment. In order to more fully align with the Light, the Divine Ones are gradually and consistently increasing our frequencies. We may think of it as though we were stringed instruments. The Great Spirit is “plucking” our strings to heighten our vibration. This is forging within our Hearts, and correspondingly within our World Heart, the brilliant diamonds that are their essences. Following are some tools for strengthening the Heart and maximizing the gifts of this metamorphic process:
- Open to the beauty and sacredness of daily life. Seek it. Allow it to wash over you. Feel its
presence within you. Feel grateful. Feel awestruck.
- Consciously develop personal integrity through increased attention to honesty, both with self and others.
- Develop capacity for heart-felt love through regularly expressing love, appreciation, gratitude and tenderness.
- Spend time on the Earth feeling peaceful.
- Give yourself permission and time for joy, play, creativity, curiosity, passion, and learning.
- Tune into your Heart, ask it questions and let it reveal itself to you. It is a muscle that, like any other, strengthens with use.
May the diamond of your Heart shine brightly throughout time!!
